The La Crosse Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating 75 years of service to the town and surrounding communities.
The department’s 75th anniversary celebration will take place Oct. 19 at the La Crosse firehouse from 2 p.m until 5 p.m., and the public is invited to join in the celebration.
The open house event is free to attend and will feature food, a cake cutting and a raffle, in addition to a Life-Evac helicopter on display along with La Crosse’s fleet of fire engines, etc.
The raffle includes cash prizes — first place $300, second place $150 and third place $50. Tickets for the raffle are $2 apiece and will be available at the event or in advance from any La Crosse VFD member.
The event will also offer many activities geared toward children, including a visit from Smokey the Bear, fire prevention and fire safety information, gift bags and fire truck rides on the 1939 La Crosse Engine 5. The department will also have miniature replicas of Engine 5 for sale for $10 a piece.
