The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is the leading nonprofit membership association representing the interests of the volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue services. The NVFC serves as the voice of the volunteer in the national arena and provides invaluable resources, programs, education, and advocacy for first responders across the nation.
Our Mission
The mission of the NVFC is to provide a unified voice for volunteer Fire/EMS organizations.
What We Do
The NVFC accomplishes its mission and provides meaningful support to fire and EMS organizations through a wide range of services and programs:
- Representing the interests of the volunteer fire, emergency medical, and rescue services at the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, and national standards setting committees
- Focusing on health and safety
- Helping departments recruit and retain Fire Service and EMS/Rescue personnel
- Providing training on topics that matter to you (Fire Service and EMS/Rescue)
- Assisting departments in establishing support programs
- Fostering the next generation of firefighters
The NVFC is made up of state fire associations, each of which appoints a representative to serve on the NVFC Board of Directors. Ken Brown and Steve Ennis represent Virgina on the Board of Directors.

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has some exciting membership news to start out 2020! The NVFC strives to offer the best services for our members, and we also want to make sure membership is affordable for volunteers. That is why we are introducing a new single-category individual NVFC membership. No more categories, no more confusion — just one membership level at one low price.
NVFC membership still provides the same important benefits as before, such as access to online training and useful resources that address everything from recruitment and retention to cancer prevention. What’s new? The $10,000 AD&D insurance policy through Provident that was once limited to Premium Individual members is now included with every membership, and every membership is now priced at just $21 per person per year!
We know that many department leaders will want to purchase NVFC memberships for every member of their team at this new low price so they all are all protected by the AD&D policy and have access to the member benefits.
