Stonewall Jackson fire department honors former chief Art Proviano

Arthur Proviano said he’d like a fireman’s funeral, with a fire truck leading the procession. That’s exactly what he’s going to get.

Proviano, a 30-year member and former chief of the Stonewall Jackson Volunteer Fire Department in Manassas, died Sept. 25 in Pennsylvania. He was 73.

At his funeral Monday, a Stonewall Jackson fire truck will head up the procession, with other fire apparatus behind.

“We want to send him off with our respect,” said Stonewall volunteer Carrie Wilson Gonzalez.

During his lifetime, Proviano was a Northwest Airlines supervisor at Washington Dulles Airport, chair of the Prince William Democratic Committee, a volunteer sheriff’s deputy and an active union member.
