Isle of Wight: Volunteer fire agreement dispute continues, board members say there’s nothing left to do

ISLE OF WIGHT — The dispute over a facilities agreement between Isle of Wight and the county’s volunteer fire and rescue departments continued to simmer at the meeting Thursday, with both sides expressing frustration after several months of back and forth.

Two departments of the county’s seven have refused to sign the agreement, even after the county threatened to withhold funding.

The county said the use agreements were laid out to provide consistent services to the departments and enumerate the responsibilities of all seven of the county’s volunteer fire and rescue departments. The county has been firm that identical agreements among all of the departments is a must.
